Hast du mal mit top oder ps geprüft, welcher Prozess die Last verursacht?
Zum Vergleich bei mir:
(woody, Gnome 1.4, Nautilus, gmc, Mozilla 1.2.1 (Browser + mail), ding,
XMMS (mp3-Livestream), 1,3 GHz AMD Athlon)
CPU states: 0.2% user, 1.8% system, 0.0% nice, 98.0% idle
