NIE als root ein Programm starten (wenn es nicht sein muß)
Stell Dir vor, ich wäre ein böser Bube und hätte in das Programm irgendetwas reingepfuscht (formatieren, Hintertür ...) 
Oder hast Du den Code vorher analysiert ;-)
Von heatload hast Du nichts schlimmes zu erwarten aber ich wäre in Zukunft etwas vorsichtiger, wenn ich ein neues Programm starte ;-)

für laptops?
Ja, das hilft mir, aber nur in sofern, als daß Du offenbar keine ACPI Unterstützung im Kernel hast. ACPI sollte auch auf desktop-Rechnern laufen, aber nur wenn diese ACPI haben.
Ich weiß nicht, wie wiet die Standardkernel mit ACPI sind, patches gibt es hier:
