Wahrscheinlich kommst du beim ersten Booten damit aus, dem Kernel den
oben genannten Parameter direkt zu übergeben, aber trotzdem bleibt dir
später eine Neukompilation des Kernels nicht erspart:

Natürlich sind die von mir angegebenen Parameter für meine Hardware
gültig und können sich von den von dir benötigten unterscheiden, die
natürlich mit den auf der Schnittstellenkarte übereinstimmen müssen.

Ein ATAPI-CDROM-Laufwerk ist auf Dauer gesehen aber doch eine echte
Erleicherung, da es einige Fummelei erspart. Ich habe mir vor einer
einem Jahr ein gebrauchtes Mitsumi 4x CD-ROM von einem upgradegeilen
Spielekiddie gekauft und kann da sogar von booten (mit dem geeigneten
BIOS jedenfalls), wobei es für Audiograbbing allerdings unbrauchbar
ist. Ein brandneues schnelles Laufwerk würde ich mir allein schon
wegen dem infernalischen Lärm nicht antun wollen, obwohl die natürlich
mittlerweile schon sehr billig zu haben sind.
