This is really strange. It just worked here with texlive-base_2007-7
and texlive-base-bin_2007-9: I started in an etch chroot, installed
tetex-bin, installed texlive which left tetex-base in "rc" state,
dist-upgraded to sid, and purged tetex-bin and tetex-base. After that,
"dpkg-reconfigure texlive-base-bin" failed as expected, but it worked
again after the confmiss action:

Do you by chance have the fmtutil tempfiles left from the unsuccessful
try of confmiss-Installation of the newer versions (2007-8 and 2007-7)?

Ah, well. jadetex seems to have a couple of bugs, I'm not sure whether
they're related. Let's forget about that for now; we're going to take
it over, and I'm preparing an upload of -8 which will change a lot of
things.
