Use lmodern, cm-super or any other T1 encoded Postscript font (see
psnfss2e). The lmodern package adapted to teTeX 3.0 is on
http://people.debian.org/~frn/teTeX-3.0/sid/binary-all/. The cm-super
are packaged here
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/tex/pts-tetex-cm-super but the
package is probably not yet adapted to the new TDS introduced in 3.0.
An of course you can install all this manually into the local texmf
tree.
