Google gives some hits on this bug, also with Debian, but nothing that
really seems to be an easy explanation. What versions of tar and
binutils do you have on your system?

I don't get that error, neither in my woody+Backports main system, nor
in an up-to-date sid chroot; all is i386 with a home-brewn 2.4.25
kernel. Which md5sum does your incarnation of the tetex-base deb have?

$ md5sum src/Packages/tetex-base/pbuilder-result/tetex-base_2.0.2-9_all.deb
559432b63e15085678a951b4e8e0473f  src/Packages/tetex-base/pbuilder-result/tetex-base_2.0.2-9_all.deb

(which is, of course, the same as in the .changes file).
