I've contacted the author of caption(2), Harald Sommerfeldt. The answer
was. Don't do that!
In short: caption2 is a hack, which has never grown to be more than a
beta release. He gave that caption2 out to other people for use, but
was then was finally forced to put it on CTAN, cause it spread out
widely. It is not fully compatible to caption.
His advise is either to put caption.sty (v1.4b) into teTeX or put in
the new version from CTAN. I'd do the first for consistency reasons.
