FYI (since I had started to do it differently) *if* you depend on a
recent enough version of sed (one that supports -i; the one in woody is
too old), you can do these kinds of tasks in a simpler way:

  sed -ie 's/^[[:space:]]*\(For use with ngerman\.sty (neue Rechtschreibung):\)[[:space:]]*$/% \1/' "$file"

Handy.
