Bug#137823: bibtex fails with : Sorry---you've exceeded BibTeX's buffer size 5000
Package: tetex-bin
Version: 1.0.7+20011202-5
Hello, ...
I am encountering problems with bibtex, who fails to be able to parse my
document, and segfaults with the following message :
Sorry---you've exceeded BibTeX's buffer size 5000
make: *** [article.bbl] Segmentation fault
make: *** Deleting file `article.bbl'
I am using the acm style provided by tetex-extra for bibliography, but using
the default style doesn't help me out on this.
I have no doubts that this is due to the big size of the document i am working
with, and more particularly the .aux file, at least that was my impression
from a quick look at the strace output (i extensively use mfpic for graphics).
I can currently work around this problem by providing a copy of the .tex
sourcefile containing only the citations, which provide me with the .bbl and
the .blg files, which i then copy over to the working directory to produce the
correct final document, but there should be a better solution for this, i
think.
I did not find anykind of help pointer on this in the docs provided by the
tetex-doc package, nor did searching the net help me much on this, apart from:
http://ftp.fi.muni.cz/pub/tex/CTAN/digests/uktex/94/uktex.35?N=A
which hints at broken acm.bst file, but since the problem persists even
without the acm style, i don't know if the problem is there. Also adding a
newline at the end of acm.bst don't seem to solve this problem, which dating
back to 98 may have been solved since.
Also i did look into the /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf, but did not find anything which
seems to affect the bibtex buffer size.
