I see. Well, I am not a user of pdftex/pdflatex so I am
not sure but pdftex/pdflatex might need type1 fonts of
tetex-extra.

If this was true then pdftex/pdflatex would depend essentially
on tetex-extra.

As far as I tested pdflatex with ltnews14 it used uplb8a.pfb
of tetex-extra, but this might be exceptional case...

If we try to merge pdftex/pdflatex into tetex-bin/tetex-base
it might be a bit hard work.

Anyway, I would like to know the advices from more expert
pdftex/pdflatex users.

And, personally, I think it is a problem that tetex-extra
did not remove *.fmt files when tetex-extra was removed.

As far as I checked, tetex-* packages never removed generated
*.fmt files and, last of all, tetex-base do "rm -rf /var/lib/texmf"
when removed.

I think this mechanism is very rough and we should be more
sophisticated, that is, when a tetex-* package is removed it
should remove the generated *.fmt files.

Best regards, 2001.9.27
