Sorry for my poor explanation. Okay I try to explain
once again.

Well I assume that everyone here admits that the standard
name 'xdvi' is necessary for a default previewer of DVI files.

And tetex-bin provides 'xdvi' already so xdvik-ja package
provides 'xdvi-ja' command which is the default DVI previewer
of Japanese.

So we Japanese need to change 'xdvi-ja' to 'xdvi' by some
method.

One solution is that both tetex-bin and xdvik-ja packages use
'update-alternatives' and this might be the best.

But to adopt this solution, tetex-bin should rename 'xdvi'
to 'xdvi-tetex' or something else and provide 'xdvi' through
update-alternatives with priority 10, for example.

Also xdvik-ja should provide 'xdvi' through update-alternatives
with priority 15(?), for example.

Please note I request that this kind of remedy should be realized
in _potato_ so I am afraid that the above method of 'update-alternatives'
is not possible before the release of potato.

So I proposed a more simple solution (but might be rather
temporary solution) to modify only 'xdvi' script. This could
be realized by a simple modification of only tetex-bin so
I thought this was a realistic solution for potato.

Summing up I wish that Debian provides the standard name 'xdvi'
as a DVI previewer in _potato_ for Japanese users too and I do
not care whether Debian uses 'update-alternatives' or simple
modification of 'xdvi' script.

Furthermore of course we are in the same situation in woody
so I think tetex-bin and xdvik-ja should use 'update-alternatives'
to provide 'xdvi' command in woody. I did not mention this
because I thought we had enough time to realize this in woody
but of course it is excellent if this is realized in woody.

If you can not understand my point please feel free to ask me ;)
and I am looking forward to your comments or suggestions.

Best Regards, 2000.7.18
