Okay, perhaps this is the reason of error.
Now tetex-1.0 uses /usr/share/texmf as TEXMF so
please "unset TEXMF" before installing tetex-*
then evrything should go well.
BTW, it is not necessary or even harmful to set TEXMF
environment variable as a root.
