im fairly new as well, from what i can see, debian distributions are
like drinks; for best results dont mix them.

you can use apt-pinning and stuff but it has security implications see

[have used potato/woody/sarge/sid all of which worked. I use the
latest stable one that has the packages i need, usually woody]
