AIC7xxx based problem

Referencing the Debian install pages for Intel, it is stated that there 
is a known probelm with AIC7xxx based cards.  I believe I have this 
problem, I have an Intel Dual Pentium Pro MB,  And am trying to 
install Debian 2.1 from CD (my CD is IDE).  When linux is loading 
it stops responding after the following line:
xxxxxxxx 419 instructions downloaded.

I have tried both the following with no success.
aic7xxx=no_probe
aic7xxx=no_reset

Would someone be able to point me in the right direction?
