Ah ok... I read it wrongly (and my head cannot still parse it correctly). I had a strange feeling reading the rest of the mail, so sorry for the misunderstanding.
So, let see if we could prepare a good bid this year. Anyway we can recycle the work for later.
[BTW I remember ETH conferences where some sponsored people was put in the ETH bunker dormitories (we don't want that, but it is choice if things turn bad)].They were used for FrOSCamp IIRC (or were they not ETH one's?) and that topic at least came up in one of the meetings.
No, it was a big mathematical conferences and an additional academic conference (D-MAVT or some related department, I don't remember).
A miniDC is a good preparation and test, and after that we will have a good understanding of our capacities (in number of people and in organizing stuffs), but after the miniDC we will have not much time to prepare a good debconf bid.Yeah, and my opinion is to have a MiniDC _done_ _before_ we set a bid, but there was no consensus on that. It seemed to be that more people see a MiniDC as e.g. venue test, i.e. having the MiniDC at a future DebConf venue. Others disagree, also because having two bigger events at the same venue may lead to less attraction for the second event, i.e. the "real" DebConf.
I don't see problems, and anyway the two events are not in the same year. BTW various mini-debian-meeting was held in Extremadura, and AFAIK people was happy to return also for the DebConf. (And IMHO Switzerland has many more touristic attractions near possible venues).
So I prefer to have a DebConf13 in Switzerland, but I would also help for a Swiss DebConf13+X.
ciao catePS: and if we cannot decide if the DebConf should be held in the French or in the German speaking part, we still have the Ticino (or Grisons) option ;-) [After 2013 it will be directly connected by train to one of the Milano airport] [\me is waiting for retirement/pensioning of many Swiss developers (read "retirement" as "stop to work, and go living in a sunny Canton")]
