Using dpkg -i to Lenny this kernel works for me on Ultra 5 and Ultra 60 (smp).Thanks for the information. I believe Ultra 60 is Ultrasparc II machine, and SunBlade 1000 is Ultrasparc III. Did someone manage to run this kernel successfully on an Ultrasparc III box?
No joy on my SunBlade 100. The kernel fails to boot properly but it does not always stick at the same point. One time the last message was
ide-cd driver 5.00Another time the last message was to do with a USB SD-card reader. A third time it was to do with a USB keyboard. A fourth time it got as far as init, but was snowed under by SCSI errors.
I note that the CPU on this machine is:
holly:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo
cpu : TI UltraSparc IIe (Hummingbird)
fpu : UltraSparc IIe integrated FPU
prom : OBP 4.0.45 2001/02/08 14:33
type : sun4u
ncpus probed : 1
ncpus active : 1
D$ parity tl1 : 0
I$ parity tl1 : 0
Cpu0ClkTck : 000000001debe980
MMU Type : Spitfire
I also note that the entry in silo.conf reads
image=/vmlinuz-2.6.29-2-sparc64
label=Linux2.6.29
initrd=/initrd.img-2.6.29-2-sparc64
append="video=atyfb:off ide=nodma"
DMA disc access has never worked on this machine and it has always been
necessary to disable the console framebuffer. I also note that the rest
of the OS is "stable", should that matter.
I hope this is useful info Best wishes Hugh Pumphrey -- ============S=u=p=p=o=r=t===D=e=b=i=a=n===http://www.debian.org ======= Dr. Hugh C.
