Having problem with libgcc_s.so.1 version GCC_4.2.0 not found

I am running a SUN Ultra 10 with Debian packages only (except kernel).

Did and apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade yesterday.

After that some application, namely apt-get itself a quite a number of
others like telnet, troff etc. produce the following error message:

nyosvr:/var/lib/dpkg# apt-get
apt-get: /lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)

The problem seem to be with libgcc_s.so.1 which is in package libgcc1.

I googled this and found that many people ran into this before.

The package dated 28 October and according to the info it should not
depend on GCC 4.2

nyosvr:/var/cache/apt/archives# dpkg --info libgcc1_1%3a4.1.1-19_sparc.deb

 Description: GCC support library
Shared version of the support library, a library of internal subroutines
that GCC uses to overcome shortcomings of particular machines, or
  special needs for some languages.

Any suggestion how to revert to an earlier package or how to resolve this?

Is this package maintanence issue maybe the package was compiled with a
different environment (already using gcc 4.2)? Should I post this
somewhere else??

Oh, by the way, my X86 machine has the same versions of all the files
related to this and there is no similar problem.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated..

Gabor
