If you provide slighlty more details people may be able to help you a
little more.  When you say doesn't want to boot is it - do you get any
error messages or does it just sulk?

Not in general.  IIRC the stable CDs have a bug in them so that SILO has
the wrong address for the 64 bit kernel.  Search the archives for the
correct incantation or read the SILO set up of the CD (it's just a port
of LILO).  There are also some issues with very modern CD-R's (esp
CD-RWs) and older CD drives.  YMMV.
