I swapped the drives from one bay to the other. Apparently that made
things different enough for the OBP to just give up and drop back to
'ok' instead of attempting to load a nonexistant kernel from a
nonexistant partition.

I theorize that just yanking the boot drive from its bay would have
the same effect, but can't say for sure.
