He meant CONFIG_SERIAL_CORE_CONSOLE. You also need CONFIG_SERIAL_$(DRIVER_NAME)_CONSOLE set as well. For example, CONFIG_SERIAL_SUNZILOG_CONSOLE for sunzilog driver.
