I think you should try to boot with 2.2 to see if it's a problem with the serialdriver in 2.4 (like I experienced). That was the meaning of booting with an old kernel. Software raid is working on 2.2.20.. regarding other patches you can always figure out later. Dont you think is more important now to make it booting correctly???
