i dont think its a sparc issue.
I have this problem with a x86 machine. more freq than not, its netlag from the
RAID (Sparc) to the xmms x86 host. But sometimes i have this problem with local
files too.Normaly it coincides with masive disk i/o in Netscapes Mozzila. i dont
know if i was invading swap space or still within physical ram. However
reniceing all xmms threads helped.i dont know exactly how xmms comunicates with
the sound subsystem (oss in my case) but it would seem to have fifo under-run
issues.
If it is a fifo queue then increasing the buffer size might help.
there is a realtime linux implementation, you might want to keep that in mind.
