mouse + keyboard not working under Xsun

hi there: sent a message earlier in the week about the mouse not working
in X. Actually the keyboard doesn't work either and when I kill Xsun (via
ssh) the keyboard does no longer work in console mode either. How can one
troubleshoot this??? It's a type 5 keyboard and type 4 mouse - worked fine
under solaris but for linux? Also tried type 5 mouse and type 4 keyboard
but nothing changes. It's a cgsix fb on a Sun IPC which worked flawlessly
under Solaris 2.6. Only odd things are that even before you get to the ok
prompt it says type 4 keyboard detected and then when linux has booted and
you move the mouse it says sumouse detected and adjusted to 1200 baud.
Also, shouldn't gpm be running to make the mouse work on the console?
