Package: gcc Version: 1:2.95.2-6 When compiling the file main/help.c in dpkg-1.6.9, something gets compiled wrong and bad code results. The symptoms are that dpkg inconsistently reports seg faults when running various initialization or removal scripts. The problems go away if main/help.c is compiled without -O2. The current dpkg-1.6.9_sparc.deb is afflicted with this problem. I believe that the problem is in the routine maintainer_script_installed, since if I put some printf's just before the call to m_fork(), then the problem goes away. My hardware is a Sparc 5 (sun4m, I believe). --Paul Vojta, vojta@math.berkeley.edu
