I usually make a Ghost image of a base install with just the absolute
necessities. Then you can take your Ghost model machine and install
the extra stuff that you need. Ghost the base image onto the rest of
the machines and then do transfer the package database state from the
model machine to the new ones using dpkg --get-selections and dpkg
--set-selections. Seems to work very well overall.
