Argh :-) Your're all still looking for the wrong thing:

nterm: is totally wrong as it has nothing to do with gnome and is just another
       programm that listens on this port on some machines.
       (the term was found in some /etc/services)
1026: is very probably not a fixed port but the first one above 1023 that was
      free!

-> maybe search for "bind", the function needed to bind a program to a port.
