Probably not maintainer...The package I built is not at all pretty - it
has many problems (on the packaging side) and needs some silly
environment variables to be set which I'm sure we can avoid with a
proper debianized version of SAGE...but I'll quickly find myself lacking
in python and debian build knowledge to fix those problems myself.

This sounds like a good way to go about it. If I can help out with a
"team" then I'll be able to learn how things work in a more efficient

I'm a little snowed under at work today (and for the next few days I
fear) but will try and register an account on alioth and open a sage-pkg
project there soon. I'll get back (off-list) to all those who have
expressed an interest in working on getting SAGE packaged for debian.
