I get three errors from msgfmt:
po/ru.po:2802: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n'
po/ru.po:2807: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n'
po/ru.po:3178: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n'
I fixed those (and another 10 or so of those in the Japanese
translation).
I've build packages based on the current CVS source, you can get
them from http://pandora.debian.org/~wakkerma/

I'm afraid not, it depends on a newer libc and you definitely do
not want to downgrade that after upgrading it.
