Bug 307574 certainly does not require the new upstream version. 
However, the new version does fix a memory corruption error(not in the 
BTS).  I have since back-ported this fix to the current testing version 
and prepared a package for t-p-u which just includes this fix (and 
implicitly for 307574).  It is available at 
http://people.debian.org/~mfurr/perl4caml/

The only thing of note of the interdiff is that all of John's (previous 
maintainer) arch directories have been removed.

Let me know if you think this upload is appropriate for t-p-u.
