Ok -- so you check the status of the source pages hourly, and only
update your pages when those have changed?  That seems perfectly
reasonable.

That leaves only the fact that for half a day, the out-of-date packages
info is out of sync with madison (or madison-lite), but this is a
problem with update_excuses as well.
