Well it uses the package name, like so:

kernel-image-<kver><subarch>

which for example on sparc matches

kernel-image-2.2.14-sun4cdm

Well, not in the package name (that would be awful), but in the package
version.

Preferably it would be nice to have 2.2.15 in the package name, but that's
up to you for implementation. I think it would be better because I would
hate to see kernel-source-2.2.14 not actually be 2.2.14 pristine source
when we release. Instead, it would be better to have it alway be
kernel-source-2.2.15, so when 2.2.15 releases, we don't need to add new
kernel-source pakcages to the archive, and we wont have to change
boot-floppies to look for new kernel image packages.
