Thanks for the info about the bug fix. Currently in Debian we are
stalled at version 1.3 since we can not (yet) build version 1.4 due to
the missing dependency.

I do not think that this is a practical solution. We try to package
everything right from CRAN and that packaging process is quite
automated. So deriving from this scheme is not really my favourite
solution.
