Using DDE might be an alternative to the SOAP interface:

You could also use the RDF files available on the PTS:

http://packages.qa.debian.org/common/RDF.html
http://packages.qa.debian.org/w/warzone2100.ttl

If those are not sufficient then you could talk with your fellow GSoC
student who is working on a rewrite of the PTS.
