They probably know more than me on the subject. The problem with this is
to check changes over several distributions.

With a quite ugly bit of code, I now have a list of the conflicts in main
for sid. Provided there aren't to many bugs in what I wrote, there are
7668 conflict relationships, of which 87 are for virtual packages, 4633
for non-existing packages (well, not-in-sid packages), 2165 versioned ones
where the version in sid doesn't actually conflicts. The last 783 are
conflicts with packages which actually are in the distribution.

I still need to do a few things to actually display some useful data, but
I will put what I have online this evening. (I only have mail access right
now, and prefer to avoid sending 400k files on a list...
