  Why not indeed.  That would need some scripting (alternatively, the
DM-masters could be promoted to admins of that project), but nothing
that can't be done.

  I'm not sure I want that.  Everyone with an alioth account (which you
can get with no vetting besides an email check) would get a shell
account with write permissions on a large amount of repositories.  So
yes, they'd get commit access, along with the rights to remove or alter
or corrupt all the repositories in that project.  And a shell account to
run stuff on Alioth, which, along with the obvious security
implications, is not going to alleviate the consequences of the "yeah
sure, run whatever you like on Alioth" attitude and the associated load
problem.
