By your logic, such a hornet's nest would be unwarranted and not to be
expected if we had a project-wide policy of allowing anyone to upload
any package they wanted without following the NMU policy, if they felt
it had been waiting long enough.

Either respect the current policies, advocate their change, or have the
courage of your convictions and see where the chips fall.  If you're
sure you're right, then go ahead arrogate to yourself the power to
upload any package maintained by other developers at any time, and for
any reason you see fit.
