Again an update on this issue: Testing the latest upstream kernel (at [1] from Saturday, post v4.19-rc5) shows no sign of the described issue. Tested and confirmed on p5 520Q, p5 520 and Intellistation POWER 285.

And indeed, [2] looks related and [3] included the patch from [2] in the Linux kernel on 2018-09-25.

I'm now waiting for the Debian Linux kernel for version v4.19-rc6 for testing and confirmation that the described issue is gone there, too.
