So… I installed Wheezy on the G5 and immediately did a dist-upgrade to Jessie. This time it boots without incident.

With Jessie installed this way, it doesn’t go into “leaf-blower” mode.

In case it helps, here’s a sample from the output of “lsmod” —

root@bigal:~# lsmod | grep i2c
i2c_algo_bit 7980 1 nouveau

root@bigal:~# lsmod | grep wind
windfarm_cpufreq_clamp 2781 1
windfarm_smu_sensors 6735 1
windfarm_smu_controls 7094 7
windfarm_pm112 13304 0
windfarm_pid 2683 1 windfarm_pm112
windfarm_max6690_sensor 3455 1
windfarm_lm75_sensor 3989 1
windfarm_smu_sat 7056 5 windfarm_pm112
windfarm_core 11593 7 windfarm_cpufreq_clamp,windfarm_pm112,windfarm_smu_sensors,windfarm_smu_sat,windfarm_lm75_sensor,windfarm_max6690_sensor,windfarm_smu_controls

Does this help?

Rick

PS: If you’re interested in chasing down the “IPv4 dhcp doesn’t work” problem, I can provide logs from both the G5 dhcp client and the dhcp server (using dnsmasq).
