Hi there,
Yes, this is the right place to post questions regarding Debian on ppc based Apple machines.
A late 2006 iMac probably has powerpc based cpu. It also known as a "new world" machine. This means that you can simply download the powerpc install cd and simply boot of the cd and install debian on the machine. Regarding the hardware, all of it should work without a problem.
