To clarify for others who might find this post via Google, you are
referring to a PowerBook G3 Series (2000) that shipped with either a
400MHz or a 500MHz G3 processor which was removed and a 550MHz G4 soldered
in its place.

If you really want to bypass extensions when using BootX, boot with the
Shift key and use the Control Panel.

Really? Which 10/100 card is that?

The FireWire interface is on the PCI bus.

FireWire can be thought of as "serial SCSI" because of the similarity in
communication protocols. It's no wonder then, that Linux SCSI handling
code also handles FireWire. Some of the same code is also used for USB
storage devices, even though USB protocols are very different.

BTW, I hope you resist the temptation to use BootX on your Pismo. The
Wallstreet was the last OldWorld laptop (no USB). The Lombard and
subsequent models need yaboot.
