64MB should be fine, since it is beyond the place where the ramdisk gets
copied. As long as you have at least 128MB or 96Mb of ram, obviously.

it is a ramdisk kernel, so you need to use initramfs-tools to create an initrd
for you, but normally this ramdisk is automatically created, and mkvmlinuz is
invoked to do the right thing, so no idea about your problem.

Maybe you can investigate the ramdisk ? It is an initramfs-tools, so you can
look at it with some cpio magic.

Or both. Try adding the modules you think you are missing to /etc/modules.
