They'd be mostly useless; an X server crash is a bug in the X server, no
matter how broken the clients are. You'd have to get a backtrace from
the X server, but based on your description, the crash most likely
occurs in one of the X server's font renderers, e.g. (wild guess without
seeing your X server log file) freetype. Try loading a different font
renderer for the type of font you're using or using a different font. In
particular, try using applications that use Xft instead of the legacy
X11 font system because the former is completely on the client side, so
a bug there usually only results in a crash of the client, not the
server.
