Getting GPM to work.

'allo,

    I used to be able to get GPM to work on a previous piece of
    hardware (PowerMac 7100/66 running Sarge). I'm using the same
    keyboard, the same mouse (both are ADB), the same kernel, and yet
    I can not get the mouse to work.

    Does anyone out there have a working GPM on a PowerPC Mac using
    ADB ? I'd appreciate any help. It's a pain to have to type so
    much when cut'n'paste will work just as well.

    Essentially, nothing happens when I start gpm using:

      pronpt# /etc/init.d/gpm start

    Yes, the mouse works because I can use it under X11, and under
    MacOS.

    Here is what my current settings for /etc/gpm.conf look like:

    #  /etc/gpm.conf - configuration file for gpm(1)
    #
    # If mouse response seems to be to slow, try using
    # responsiveness=15. append can contain any random arguments to be
    #  appended to the commandline.
    #
    # If you edit this file by hand, please be aware it is sourced by
    # /etc/init.d/gpm and thus all shell meta characters must be
    # protected from evaluation (i.e. by quoting them).
    #
    # This file is used by /etc/init.d/gpm and can be modified by
    # "dpkg-reconfigure gpm" or by hand at your option.
    #
    device=/dev/ttyS4
    responsiveness=15
    repeat_type=
    type=autops2
    append=''
    sample_rate=

cheers,
