This is a powermac kernel right ? (not a chrp or prep). Can you try
booting with "video=ofonly" from the command line ? That is, if your
kernel label in yaboot is "Linux", then try "Linux video=ofonly". That
will tell us if there is a problem with the video driver or some other
issues...
