can't detect Canon A75 digital camera

Hi,

When I attach the camera and turn it on, I get a popup window saying:
"Import photos from camera?" --- it must be some kind of gnome thing,
I don't know where it is coming from. Whether I choose Import Photos,
or simply start gtkam or gphoto2 --auto-detect, it cannot see the
camera.

the relevant section from /proc/bus/usb/devices:

shouldn't the camera appear here too?

My kernel is

Thanks,
