Actually, the patch looks a bit fishy, and I wonder what happens on
machines with true dual head.

Never mind, as long as it gets fixed.
However, we should clarify what exactly is happening.
On my Pismo, which has the exact same graphics card as your TiBook,
m3mirror works nicely if I boot without a kernel command line. If I
use video=aty128fb, I get the PROM message on the external display, no
matter whether I switch it on right away or leave it off and use
m3mirror later.
So please check whether you set video in your kernel command line, and
what the argument is. And please try booting without that parameter
and see what happens.
