Such as, the pre-packaged Debian kernels.  If you build the kernel
yourself, the necessary options are

 CONFIG_SERIAL_CORE=y
 CONFIG_SERIAL_CORE_CONSOLE=y
 CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG=y
 CONFIG_SERIAL_PMACZILOG_CONSOLE=y
