Powerbook G4 (867 Mhz) Help Request

I have installed Debian on my Powerbook G4. Installation went fine. Now
I want to compile a new kernel, then install XFree86. I am using
instructions I found at:

http://cattlegrid.net/~christophe/titanium/

The problem is that I get strange errors after I finish the step "make
menuconfig" & run the step "make-kpkg ..." Here is part of what happens:

defkeymap.c:483: error: initiializer element is not constant
defkeymap.c:483: error: (near initialization for 'key_maps[12]')
defkeymap.c:10: error: storage size of 'plain_map' isn't known
defkeymap.c:77: error: storage size of 'shift_map' isn't known
defkeymap.c:144: error: storage size of 'altgr_map' isn't known

<several lines of similar errors>

make[4]: ***[defkeymap.o] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/benh-kernel/drivers/char'
make[3]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make[3]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/benh-kernel/drivers/char'
make[2]: *** [_subdir_char] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/benh-kernel/drivers/'
make[1]: *** [_dir_drivers] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/benh-kernel'
make: *** [stamp-build] Error 2

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
