Rebuilding with a pbuilder sid chroot doesn't seem to change anything
here.
BTW, it doesn't really work even when a symlink is picked up here: the
themed cursors are used, but they seem to be converted to core cursors,
which looks butt ugly. I wonder if this (sub)problem is architecture
specific?
