What is /dev/ram

Title: Re: Got this far on a 7100/80
so I edited lilo.conf (for some reason there are two of them on my system, i edited both, because the first didn't seem to have any effect: set rootdev=/dev/ram)

When I reboot:
"Cannot open root device "ram" or 01:00

what is /dev/ram

and what is /dev/sb.... whatever ..5 that I got before?

and what does set rootdev mean?

What is Woody?

Woody is the current stable release of Debian (Version 3.0).  see http://www.debian.org/releases.  The previous version 2.0 is Potato.
Testing is Sarge and Unstable is Sid.  All characters from Toy Story ;-)

So, I used the Mach Kernel and the Apple Bootloader and I actually got some results!

It was kinda cool...
in any event I got the following error:

VFS Cannot open root device sdb5 or 08:15
Please appand a correct "root=" boot option

kernel panic VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:15

on a 7100/80 what is the correct root= option and how do I set it?

Open lilo.conf on the Mac side - you can use Control Panels/MkLinux and select Custom

set rootdev=/dev/ram

And it should boot you into the installation screen you can then install woody from the net.

Good luck
